One of the schools we began working with is Claughton Middle School. Before the pandemic, we had the opportunity to meet Mr. Louis, the principal of Claughton. Upon learning about the success of our work at Bailey Middle School, Mr. Louis invited us to support his campus as well. We were contracted to conduct a short bootcamp for 200 eighth-grade history students, during which each student attended a four-hour review session. The results were remarkable, as we observed a significant increase in student performance with 12% overall gains from the previous school year. In the 2021 school year, the passing rates for the approaches level were at 20%, for meets it was at 3%, and for masters, it stood at 1%. However, in the 2022 school year, after conducting a small STAAR Review camp involving all students, we witnessed significant improvements.

The passing rate for the approaches level increased to 32%, for meets it rose to 7%, while the masters level remained constant at 1%. These results demonstrate the positive impact of the STAAR Review camp on student performance and achievement.

During the 2021-2022 school year, Mr. Louis also enlisted our services to collaborate with two different sixth-grade math teachers in their classrooms for approximately three weeks, just prior to the STAAR assessment. The outcomes we achieved in terms of student score improvements were truly remarkable. In the 2021 school year, the passing percentages for the approaches level were at 33%, for meets it stood at 9%, and for masters, it was 2%. However, in the 2022 school year, after conducting an intensive three-week math review camp with both students and teachers actively engaged, we witnessed significant progress. The passing percentage for the approaches level increased to 44%, for meets it rose to 15%, while the masters level improved to 3%. These notable enhancements highlight the positive impact of the math review camp on student achievement and performance.

In addition, Mr. Louis engaged our services to collaborate in a sixth-grade Reading class for approximately three weeks, leading up to the STAAR assessment. During this period, we achieved remarkable advancements in student scores. In the state of Texas, student performance on the STAAR exam is categorized as below grade level, on grade level, or above grade level, based on their rankings.

To help ensure more students were performing at or above grade level, we dedicated Saturdays to working with students, aiming to increase the number of students performing at or above grade level. Through thorough research and analysis of their data, we identified specific sub-groups for targeted intervention. Once again, our efforts resulted in significant progress and gains for these students. In the 2021 school year, the passing percentages for the approaches level were at 39%, for meets it stood at 16%, and for masters, it was 6%. However, in the 2022 school year, after conducting an intensive review, the passing percentage for the approaches level increased to 57%, for meets it rose to 29%, while the masters level improved to 14%.

We had the privilege of collaborating with Principal Shundra Brown at Bailey Middle School. Principal Brown is an exceptionally proactive leader who prioritizes student growth and ensures they have the necessary resources and opportunities for success. In the 2019/2020 school year, Principal Brown invited us to work with students, where we conducted focused writing sessions and implemented Student Boot Camps for reading. Encouraged by the positive feedback received from students, Principal Brown engaged our services for the subsequent year.

In the 2021-2022 school year, our support at Bailey Middle School expanded to include multiple grade levels through student boot camps. We also initiated Accelerated Instruction Student Bootcamps on Saturdays to provide targeted remediation for specific students requiring additional assistance.

Bailey Middle School
Principal Brown made the Saturday Accelerated Instruction Bootcamp sessions available to all students, and the feedback we received was incredibly positive. Students expressed their desire to continue working with our team, which serves as a testament to the value of our work and the support we aim to provide. We are committed to sustaining our partnership with Bailey Middle School during the 2023-2024 school year.

Regarding Math, we observed noticeable increases in the percentages of students reaching the approaches and meets levels from 2021 to 2022, indicating progress and improvement in student performance.

In reading, we experienced positive developments in student performance from 2021 to 2022. Specifically, we observed notable increases in the percentages of students achieving the approaches, meets, and masters levels. This indicates significant progress and growth in reading proficiency among the student population during the specified timeframe.

Additionally, we organized large-scale Student Boot Camps specifically designed to remediate and prepare students for the 8th Grade Social Studies STAAR assessment. Principal Brown selected 60 students and our team provided targeted instruction and support to enhance their readiness for the exam.

Throughout the 2022-2023 school year, our support for Bailey Middle School continued and expanded to encompass various services. We provided a range of offerings, including our Accelerated Instruction Bootcamps held on Saturdays during the fall and spring semesters, focusing on Math, Reading, and Social Studies. Additionally, we offered Emergent Bilingual support to both teachers and students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Reading, as well as 8th grade Science. Furthermore, teachers benefited from attending our STAAR Review Target Training sessions tailored to each grade level and course.

We are thrilled to witness the growth and progress anticipated during this academic year and eagerly anticipate collaborating with Bailey Middle School's new teachers for the upcoming 2023-2024 School Year.

For the case study, our engagement took place in the academic year 2021-2022, where our focus was on collaborating with math teachers at Dueitt Middle School. Throughout our duration, we effectively demonstrated instructional techniques, introduced valuable T3 resources, and extended assistance to teachers encountering challenges, as indicated by the available data. Furthermore, we diligently conducted weekly student sessions to offer targeted support aligned with House Bill 4545 requirements. Our specific task involved delivering 30 hours of remedial instruction in both math and reading to ensure student growth.

During the 2022-2023 School year, our focus was on collaborating with the reading department. Our efforts were directed towards assisting the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Reading Teachers, as well as working closely with the instructional coach. Our aim was to provide support and enhance their capabilities, enabling the principal to sustain ongoing teacher support.

Years Active: 2015 - 2019
Grade Levels: 6 - 8 and HS Math
Subjects: Math
Services: Student Remediation, Student Boot Camps, Teacher Mentoring, STAAR Review Target Training

In 2015, our support initially began at the middle school level, focusing on math instruction for sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students. In collaboration with the teachers, we engaged in regular planning sessions every six weeks to ensure their comprehension of the standards, instructional approaches, student engagement techniques, and relationship-building strategies to optimize learning outcomes.

Due to the outstanding results achieved, the school administration extended our involvement to include both middle school and high school teachers. During the 2016 school year, the district faced challenges with a significant number of students struggling to pass the Math End of Course Assessment, particularly in Algebra I. To address this issue, in addition to the regular planning sessions, we provided targeted remediation to over 200 students throughout the year. Remarkably, over 90% of these students successfully passed the assessment. For the remaining 10%, T3 offered a summer program resulting in the majority of students passing during the second attempt.

Even throughout the pandemic, we continued to support Crosby ISD through planning sessions and virtual student boot camps, as well as providing virtual assistance to the teachers. Since 2015, Crosby ISD has consistently attended our STAAR Review Target Training sessions, which have consistently yielded positive outcomes.

As we navigate the post-pandemic phase, our support to the district and campus is now provided on an as-needed basis. It is gratifying to note that this particular client serves as a prime example of our most successful outcome — empowering to achieve substantial data improvements, meet their targets, and successfully implement our methodologies and strategies that are still utilized by their teachers today.

Throughout each year, we diligently maintained our support for the district, tailoring boot camps to their specific needs, guided by data-driven insights. Additionally, we actively assisted and organized initiatives at their high school, where a cohort of inexperienced teachers were entrusted with the task of educating students. Our mentoring program proved invaluable in empowering these teachers to excel, resulting in remarkable achievements. Notably, despite it being their first year in the profession, these educators attained exceptional passing rates ranging from the mid-80s to the mid-90s, showcasing a truly remarkable outcome.

We were thrilled to witness the impact of our work in the classrooms. Our efforts at Hull Daisetta ISD (HDISD) yielded positive results, leading us to the point where our assistance was no longer necessary. We successfully completed our objectives, essentially working ourselves out of a job.

Currently, we maintain a supportive role with HDISD, offering assistance as needed. Additionally, teachers from the district actively participate in our virtual STAAR Review Target Trainings.
